- використання більш м’яких матеріалів GB-фази;
- зменшення товщини міжзернового шару;
- збільшення модуля Юнга;

On September 10, 2026, a regular online working meeting of GREENE was held regarding Project No. 101129888 «SINGLE-GRAIN RE-ENGINEERED ND-FE-B PERMANENT MAGNETS».
The meeting was attended by a consortium comprising 15 research organizations and companies from Slovenia, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, and Ukraine. Also present were four industrial partners, including the world-renowned company BOSH, and the project was coordinated by the Joseph Stefan Institute (Ljubljana, Slovenia).
At the working meeting, the project leader, Dr Oleksandr GRUSHKO, gave a presentation on Work Package 1 (WP1 – Multi-scale Simulations). Representing VNTU for Work Package No. 1 at the meeting were Serhii Sukhorukov, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Transport; Inna Kyrytsia, PhD in Engineering, Associate Professor; Oleksandr Hutsalyuk, Senior Lecturer; and Andrii Gubanov, Category I Engineer.
Oleksandr GRUSHKO noted that the study involved 3D modelling of polycrystalline Nd–Fe–B, taking into account the properties of the grain boundary (GB) phase and the thermomechanical stresses and strains arising during cooling. A model comprising 27 Nd–Fe–B grains with symmetrical boundary conditions, corresponding to 216 equivalent grains, was considered, and the influence of the central grain’s orientation was analysed.

The dependence of the minimum and average values of magnetocrystalline anisotropy K₁ on the parameters of the intergranular layer was investigated.
It was found that for most real materials with a positive coefficient of thermal expansion, the mechanical contribution of the intergranular (GB) phase has a negative effect on the intrinsic magnetic properties (K₁).
This effect can be minimized by:
1. using softer materials for the GB phase;
2. reducing the thickness of the intergranular layer;
3. selecting materials with a low coefficient of thermal expansion.
A positive mechanical contribution to K₁ is possible if the GB phase has a negative coefficient of thermal expansion. In this case, the effect is enhanced by:
1. increasing the Young’s modulus;
2. increasing the amount (volume fraction) of the GB phase.
The next stage involves obtaining experimental values for the coefficient of thermal expansion, density near the melting point, and Young’s modulus of the Nd₇₀Cu₃₀ eutectic alloy from partners conducting research within other work packages. The data obtained can be used as input parameters to refine the 3D model of a polycrystalline Nd–Fe–B alloy with an Nd–Cu intergranular phase. Based on these data, a more detailed analysis of thermally induced deformations and stresses can be carried out, and their influence on the local and average values of K₁ can be determined as a function of the thickness and amount of the GB phase. This will enable an assessment of the contribution of the actual composition of the intergranular material to the formation of the magnetic properties of Nd–Fe–B and improve the reliability of the developed model.
